Secure jackstay attachment

Not a fancy subject but important for the safety of you and your crew.

The original eyebolts rather small and the backing plates were badly corroded. There was no way they would have withstood any sort of force applied to them if someone went overboard.
The original installation is shown below.

These were replaced with Wichard waterproof u-bolt Wichard
Pick a size to to suit, large is good, and I added a piece of hardwood as a backing plate reinforcement to prevent pull through in the event the bolts are heavily loaded. I might be a little paranoid although it was very little extra work.

Routing your jackstays

Think about where you want them to run. You should be able to reach them from a clipped on position in the cockpit. I run mine from there up to the mast (not along the side of the deck) so that I am more inboard and from the mast to the bows. This works well.
Some people run them close to the centre line of the boat but that’s just impractical on Dragon II. Look carefully at you options and if you can fit them so they stop you going over the guardrails.
